藉著交響曲—音樂裡最嚴肅、最正式的曲式— 西貝流士對四百年的西方音樂發展作一個總結，為第七號交響曲鍍上了一層神祕的光輝；這是一道連綿不絕的樂聲長弧、一部渾然天成的單樂章交響曲。在區區一個樂章裡，西貝流士給予我們的……不僅是一部交響曲，而是一個宇宙。除了不朽的七部交響曲與愛國詩篇《芬蘭頌》，西貝流士最值得聆聽的交響傑作首推 :《藍敏凱寧組曲》（Lemminkäinen Suite, Op. 22）,《卡累利阿組曲》（Karelia Suite）和小提琴協奏曲， D小調。

當然這位「鋼琴詩人」也有大型作品，但我們就把它們暫時擱置。蕭邦的miniatures種類很多,樣樣精采，包括 Preludes, Études, Nocturnes, Impromptus, Waltzes, Mazurkas 和Polonaises。這次我們就來聊聊蕭邦和他的 24首 Preludes （前奏曲，Op. 28), 以及24 首Études（練習曲，Op. 10 and Op. 25) 吧。

🎈 About the Speakers：Dr. Lucas Chang

Lucas S. Chang is an alumnus of Chemical Engineering '77. His interest towards classical music started young--in fact, he claimed that his lifelong affection for Brahms started from his cradle days--and he began his crusade for classical music appreciation when he was a student in Taida. In the Bay Area, by request of friends, he has presented on various subjects of classical music. He is knowledgeable, articulate, and enthusiastic. He speaks with passion that often moves his audience. For more than two decades, Lucas has been invited to our club to give lectures on works by composers including Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler, Schoenberg/Berg/Webern, Franck, Debussy, Stravinsky and Bartók. He remains one of our most popular and respected speakers, in spite of his repeated attempts to lock all doors and windows to prevent people from getting out during his lectures.

🎈 上回我們很快聆賞了布拉姆斯晚年傑作豎笛五重奏、作品編號115的第二樂章，對其中的吉普賽-匈牙利風格的、近乎豎笛裝飾奏的段落想必印象深刻。這回我們會把它聽完，尤其是總結全曲的變奏曲式的終樂章，看我們能否感受到作曲家在濃濃秋意之外想表達的更深刻的意涵。

我們也將回到布拉姆斯本來要作為封筆之作的G大調、作品編號111的第二首弦樂五重奏，除了那大提琴簡直一夫當關、氣勢恢宏的第一樂章，也聽聽看作曲家如何藉著他拿手的主題與變奏（第二樂章）和間奏曲（第三樂章），加上包含他鍾愛的匈牙利舞曲的輪迴曲-奏鳴曲終樂章，對他的作曲生涯暫時作了個總結。此外，如果說許多布拉姆斯的獨奏或室內樂作品都如舒曼所說，是“披著面紗的交響曲

（veiled symphonies）” 的話，這闋弦樂五重奏的面紗該是其中最輕薄的了。

除了以上兩闋傳世之作之外，我們也將對作品編號114的豎琴三重奏和作品編號40的圓號三重奏作個鳥瞰式的聆賞。至於布拉姆斯的三首弦樂四重奏（作品編號51之一、51之二和67），就等再下回和貝多芬的作品編號59的三首弦樂四重奏一同聆賞吧。
